Kayla and Ravi's wedding was an "East meets East" affair Labor Day Weekend at our estate. Kayla's heritage is Vietnamese; Ravi's is Indian. Both Friday and Saturday were packed with ceremonies and activities.
Friday evening was the Mehndi ceremony, complete with a henna artist for attending guests and karaoke. Guests dined on delicious Indian fare -- aloo matar samosas, murgh makhani, murgh biryani, and chana masala, to name a few -- served buffet-style in the main center bay of the Bank Barn. Tables and chairs were set up in one of the adjoining bays, with beverages, the henna station and the DJ/karaoke station in the south side bay.
Saturday morning at the estate began with the Baraat or groom processional via horse-drawn carriage. Ravi utilized the pathway and tree canopy of our Woodland Promenade for the start of his procession. With a large portable speaker on the back of one of our golf carts, Ravi, his groomsmen and guests paraded from the west barn area to the estate's Mansion with plenty of music and dancing.
Once the groom, groomsmen and guests arrived at the Mansion's front lawn, Ravi and Kayla had their "first looks" via the Varmala. Kayla presented Ravi with a garland of white and red carnations, and then returned to the Mansion to ready for her processional. Kayla's brother and sister-in-law performed a series of rituals welcoming Ravi.
The Kanya Aagaman, or bride's processional, utilized the brick and stone walkway leading out from the Mansion's front door to the Estate Lawn. The bridesmaids were followed by adorable young family members carrying cheeky signs building up Kayla's arrival. Arm-in-arm with her father, Kayla elegantly strolled down the walkway and stairs, and into the tent mandap on the Estate Lawn for the remainder of the Indian wedding ceremony.
Once the Indian ceremony concluded, Kayla and Ravi enjoyed a horse-drawn carriage ride. An informal, buffet-style luncheon of delicious Chinese cuisine was provided for the guests, while Kayla and Ravi finished their ride and had pictures taken.
Additional guests arrived for the afternoon and evening festivities, featuring a full reception with dinner and dancing in the Bank Barn.
